RE: Photo of my Mom, Uncle and Grandparent's TT circa 1936

Rich, You may be able to see the photos but the only thing showing up are red squares for the rest of us. I suspect that the host site you are using (Snapfish.com) requires one to be a member to see the photos. Try using this site. It is free but you can only upload one picture at a time. It is the site I use a lot. If I want to post more than one picture in a post, I open a separate window for TinyPic and then just switch back and forth to get the pictures posted. I sent you a PM also. Barney

RE: Please settle an argument - map of US

Thanks for the great debate on how to fill in the map. My question is where do you get the map to add to your signature at the bottom of your post. Thanks Jeff Hi Jeff, Click here for instructions on how to add the map to your signature. Click here for assistance on just about any other forum operation topic. :) Barney

RE: Considering 22 GQ Arctic Fox Travel Trailer

I suspect you will get between 10-12mpg. I have the exact same truck and that is what I get. My trailer is heavier but the frontal area is probably just about the same. Frontal area is what kills mileage when towing a regular TT. By the way, WELCOME to the forums! :) I hope you post often and get all your questions answered. We have a lot of very informed and helpful folks here. Barney

RE: My new leveling scheme

Well, unlike most of you, I don't RAISE my TT to level it. Where I camp is in the woods boondocking. So, I LOWER my TT to level it. As in, mark the spot with the wheels, roll forward, dig a hole deep enough to set the axle almost on the ground, yet far enough to keep the sewage line and anything else off the ground, roll back into the holes, and, presto. I'm leve...and don't have to climb up the steps. Plus, when I camp is winter, so less cold air UNDER my TT means less heating needed and less chance of freezing things with my tarps strung around it as underpinning with the screw on snaps on the TT and installed in the tarps. I'm not sure where I ever have camped that I would want to raise it up to get it level when the lower the better, and easier to use the stabilizer jacks when you don't have to crank them down but a few inches. I would think it might be quite hard to dig a hole in the winter time. Last time I tried it in Michigan I had to use a pick ax to break through the frozen ground. Seems to me it would probably be a lot easier to level just using boards. :) Barney

RE: Whats the best battery for my TT.

Two 6 volt batteries maintained on a float charger while not being used should last you 5 years. Titan 100 seems to be the preferred 6 volt. Not cheap, but worth it if you dry camp alot. I think you probably meant to say Trojan T-105 and not Titan 100.:) Barney

RE: Vent Fan Recommendations

So I have 3 vents (1 Bathroom with small noisy fan, 1 in rear bedroom, and 1 in front bedroom). I'm ok with the bathroom fan for now, but would like to put fans in both bedrooms. I already have MaxAir Covers on all 3, so my question is...can I put just one of the mentioned fans in this forum and use my existing covers? If you have the standard MaxxAir vent covers, then you will need to replace them on any vent that you install a Fantastic Fan on. They do not let enough air to flow for the high capacity fans. What you would need is a Fan Mate for each vent that you put a Fantastic Fan in. They are designed for the high capacity fans and will allow you to leave your vent open all the time and use the fan in the rain. I have two of them on my trailer and they really work well. I leave my vents open 24/7/365 day a year. You will probably not need one in each bedroom. Just put one in one bedroom and leave your standard cover on the other one with the vent open. You will find that the high air flow of the Fantastic Fan will draw in a terrific amount of air through the existing vent or windows and probably make the two fans unnecessary. Barney

RE: Problem with Wingard Antenna

All you need to do is get back up on the roof and spray silicone down and around where the large gears are. Wingard recommends that be done every once and a while to keep everything working smoothly. I had the same problem as you and the silicone fixed it. I usually spray mine twice a year now when I am up there cleaning the roof. I doubt that you hurt the antenna from "helping" it down. Barney

RE: Vent Fan Recommendations

I would highly recommend the Maxx Air "Turbo Max" fan. We had one in our previous trailer and in our present trailer we have two Fantastic Fans with the "Fan Mate" covers. We prefer the Turbo Max. It is quieter, just as powerful as the Fantastic, and can be used 24/7 no matter what the weather. If you decide to go with the Fantastic Fan, get the Fan Mate 800 cover for it. This will allow you to leave the vent open and use the fan when it is raining. Barney

RE: Dry Weight of a trailer?

You don't do anything with the hitch weight - neither add or subtract. The weight as shown is for the total trailer. It also lists the hitch weight so people can get a rough estimate as to what it is. Actually, both the weight and hitch weight listed in brochures are usually WAY off and the actual weight is normally MUCH higher - often 100's or 1000's of pounds off!:E Barney

RE: when you drain your water heater

You don't have to worry about the water splashing on other parts. Just take out the plug and let it drain - then replace the plug. As Dick mentions, you might want to flush some water back in thru the drain hole with a "tank saver" before replacing the plug to help get out any solids that may be in there from the anode rod and then replace the plug. Lots of people do not bother with that step however and never have any problem. Barney

RE: Vents on roof questions

Sarah, Click here to go to the MaxAir website and download the installation instructions for the vent covers. That way you can see how easy it is. They all install the same way and it is very easy. There is no messing with any wiring at all with the covers. The only time you need to do any wiring is when you install a fan of some type. The instructions you will probably want are for the Maxxair Vent or the Fan Mate cover. Both install exactly the same way. Barney

RE: About air compressors for blowing out for winterization

Sarah, Instead of fretting and worrying about this and spending a whole bunch of money for a compressor, tubing, fittings, etc., why don't you just take your trailer to a nearby RV dealer and pay them a few bucks to winterize it for you. I bet it would be less than $100 to have them do the job. You will probably spend at least that much on the equipment and supplies mentioned above. Then, next year, during the year as you learn more about your trailer, you can learn more about the process, which is very easy but must be done right, and then do it yourself next year. Perhaps you could also find a nearby shop who would send someone to your place or even a neighbor who is an experienced RVer. Just a suggestion.:) Barney

RE: ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - NEW DOMETIC RECALL

I'm still trying to figger out whether or not this is the same re-call as the letter that I got before. It seems to be worded differently and my dealer tells me that it is the same.Butttt,it still sounds different for the fix.Guess I'll have to call Dometic. Yes, same recall, same fix. The only difference is that they have added more serial numbers to the recall list. Barney
